Summary of Experience
- Throughout my internship this summer I learned how to manage my time wisely because I was typically given a list of tasks that needed to be completed and I knew I had a certain amount of time to complete each task. I think it helped having two other interns because we taught each other new methods to accomplish tasks. I also had to learn things quickly such as the way the summer series tickets worked. My first office day I was thrown into helping put tickets in their correct envelopes and at first I was extremely overwhelmed. After some time, I learned how to pick up methods quickly and could learn how to do something with little explanation.
- I had originally wanted to work in sports but after working at Live Nation, I would be interested in working with entertainment and music. I also think with this experience I learned a lot about the sales and communications aspect of business instead of the public relations aspect. Although this may be a disadvantage for me, I will have future knowledge about sales.
- Leadership was a present skill that I had reinforced throughout my internship because between myself and my two fellow interns, I liked to take on the role as the leader. I enjoyed delegating tasks and making sure everything got completed in time. Communication is a skill that was mainly reinforced, but also new because I learned how to use it in a business setting. Being artistic is a skill that I learned through using social media such as Facebook and Twitter to get the word out about the concerts to our target audience in a fun way. I put my own flair on the social media sites through communication and pictures. Another skill that was mainly reinforced, but also new because of the business setting is my social skills. I observed my supervisors spend the entire concert mingling with clients and reinforcing relationships with them. I also saw how my supervisors interacted with their fellow employees and how it makes the workplace a lot more fun.
- I believe that observing my supervisors interact with their current clients will greatly improve my interpersonal skills. I think it will help me become successful by giving me great customer service skills and the ability to keep lasting relationships.
- My experience could have been more beneficial if I had done more public relations work such as writing news releases. I mainly worked with sales, which I did not expect. By learning about sales, I actually realized how much I enjoyed talking about the perks of VIP seating and getting potential clients excited about them.
- I think this internship experience could be improved by more hands on writing experience. Although I loved meeting and working with my fellow interns, I believe that there did not need to be three of us. Many of the tasks were "bottom of the barrel" or "busy work," which is why I think that one intern would have been enough. I also wish that we did not have to do so much physical work on concert days.
